Bar Code Data becomes a GS1 UK Partner
Bar Code Data (www.barcodedata.co.uk) based in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester has recently been awarded accredited partner status with GS1 (www.gs1uk.org), the global standards body for barcodes.
GS1 has long been evangelising the adoption of barcode standards in the healthcare sector, driving the Patient Identification and medication administration standards as well as those for blood tracking for a number of years.
Bar Code Data will provide GS1 compliant solutions for patient identification in a healthcare setting, providing expertise across a number of different technologies including label/wristband formats to comply with DCB1077 (https://www.gs1uk.org/our-industries/healthcare/gs1-standards-for-nhs-acute-trusts/the-three-core-enablers/patient-identification/dcb1077-for-patient-identification), barcode scanning, mobile printing at the bedside for phlebotomy & pharmacy, for medication administration.
The above standards fall in line with the “Scan 4 Safety” initiative successfully launched in 2017 which saw a dramatic reduction in patient identification errors across 6 pilot sites in the NHS, combined with huge efficiency savings for stock control and inventory management.
Commenting on the partnership with GS1 UK Geoff Monk, Sales & Marketing Director at Bar Code Data said “We are delighted to be partnering with GS1 UK at a time when new standards are being introduced to reduce errors and help save lives. The accreditation falls in line with the launch of Bar Code Data Health, our dedicated division with a team of barcode professionals specifically focussing on helping clients in the NHS & healthcare sectors”. He went on to say “whilst looking simplistic in its’ appearance the construction of the barcode format is complicated and needs to be carefully planned to ensure compliance with the standards”.
Bar Code Data has over 30 years’ experience in the Auto ID industry with a wealth of expertise in hardware, software, labels & support.
