Reinventing Label Production: How Grosvenor Oil Upgraded to On-Demand, IoT-Enabled Printing

Grosvenor Oil transformed their label system with Bar Code Data’s modern, cloud-based Loftware solution and Epson on-demand colour printing.

Background

For over 20 years Grosvenor Oil has been supplying high quality Transformer oils and providing specialist on-site oil processing services to the world’s major Transformer Manufacturers, as well as directly to the UK Power Generators, Transmission Network Operators, Distribution Network Operators, HV Maintenance Providers and industrial owners and operators.

The Issue

Grosvenor had previously been using a label design software solution from Nice Label to produce labels for their oil drums. However, the system had been designed with a lack of flexibility and an inability to make any changes to a fixed label template. The system was configured by their incumbent supplier in 2018 but hadn’t been updated in the interim period, resulting in slower system performance which was beginning to impact customer service.

Support and fast response times from a local supplier were paramount to ensuring minimal disruption to day-to-day operations, and to maintain excellent customer service for their clients.

The Solution

Grosvenor needed the ability to make changes on the go, and deal with a partner that was responsive when issues arose or when they needed to make changes, as well as providing a modern, up-to-date solution aligned to Grosvenor’s requirements and philosophy. Gavin Allen, Managing Director at Grosvenor made contact with Bar Code Data to ask if they could help provide a more modern, flexible and reliable solution to suit their needs.

Within a matter of days the Bar Code Data team were on site to demonstrate the latest Loftware Business Cloud solution, showing the flexibility and ease of making modest in-house changes to label templates and crucially, the ability to print on demand rather than having to use pre-printed labels to conform with GHS and EU CLP Compliance standards. The demo also incorporated the latest Epson ColorWorks C4000 printer, providing Grosvenor with the ability to print colour labels on demand, whilst complying with GHS requirements.

Within a month of the initial meeting the Bar Code Data team designed new label templates for the client, installed the new Epson ColorWorks C4000 printer to work with Loftware Business Cloud to produce labels directly via IOT, and conducted on-site training on how to make changes to existing templates. Bar Code Data developed a custom label printing application for the client which connects to their product database to speed up and automate their label printing, saving time by removing the need to type in product information each time, thereby reducing the overall number of label templates required.

The solution is also backed up by a bespoke support package and telephone helpdesk from Bar Code Data for issues or queries.
