The silicone cover and the especially flat key profile allow for the highest level of cleaning and disinfection. Being waterproof, the AK-C8112 can be sprayed, wiped or even immersed in disinfectants and the ultra-flat key profile prevents microbial growth on contaminants and disinfectant residues in gaps. Depending on the hygienic requirements, it is available with a removable membrane that can be autoclaved for sterilization or a permanently installed silicone membrane with IP68 rating. Like all Active Key hygiene keyboards of the “-12”-range (suffix -12, e.g. AK-C7412, AK-C4012), the AK-C8112 hygiene keyboard has a particularly flat key profile. This has been proven to remove more bacteria and germs during cleaning. Together with the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Amberg-Weiden, we carried out a phosphor gel emulation test with the AK-C8100 and AK-C7412 hygiene keyboards. This has clearly shown that the keyboard with the flat key profile (AK-C7412) leaves significantly less to no cleaning residue in the spaces between the keys after wipe disinfection than the keyboard with the higher profile (AK-C8100).
